Public Health

The Public Health (PUBH) degree prepares 91视频 with the skills and knowledge necessary to attain employment in health related fields within the public and private sector.

It is also a preprofessional degree that may be used to pursue graduate study in a variety of allied health programs. Students may choose from two highly structured concentrations within the program. Majors may specialize in Community Health Education or Health Administration. Students who successfully complete the Community Health Education track may be eligible to take the exam offered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) to become Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES). Final determination of eligibility for the CHES exam is made by the NCHEC.

All 91视频 are required to complete an internship to obtain field experience in Public Health. Graduates of the program will be eligible for entry-level positions within a variety of health related organizations, including:

  • State or local health departments
  • Federal health agencies
  • Volunteer health agencies
  • Public utilities
  • Private industry
  • Consulting firms
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing homes
  • Community health centers
  • Health insurance companies
  • Health maintenance organizations
  • Preferred provider organizations.

Requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Public Health

Open to Stockton 91视频 in good academic standing.

  • Students are advised to declare their major by the beginning of the sophomore year to provide sufficient time to meet all program requirements for graduation by the end of their senior year.
  • Credit for transfer 91视频 will be considered on an individual basis.
  • An interview by appointment with a Public Health faculty member is strongly recommended prior to declaration of the major.
  • A 鈥淐-鈥 or better in all Public Health courses (or their equivalents) and a 2.0 PUBH GPA or higher is required for graduation.
  • Students have the opportunity to earn Minors in a variety of fields such as Gerontology; Integrative Health; and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
  • Spanish or another modern language is recommended for Public Health majors.

Minor

This minor is intended to expose 91视频 in other majors to some of the fundamental concepts in public health. The minor consists of five courses (20 credits). A "C-" or better in the five courses (or their equivalents) and a PUBH GPA of "C" (2.0) or better are required. Two courses (up to 8 credits) can be transferred into the minor with the approval of the program Coordinator.
