Graduate Student Council Constitution
The Graduate Student Council works directly with the graduate student organizations at 91ÊÓƵ to ensure that all graduate 91ÊÓƵ are able to receive appropriate funds for various academic pursuits and voice their thoughts and perspectives for their respective programs. The delegates from all the graduate programs work collaboratively to ensure interprofessional collaboration throughout the academic year for the overall success of all graduate 91ÊÓƵ.
The GSC operates independently of the Office of Graduate Studies and is run by graduate 91ÊÓƵ. Financial opportunities come from the Student Life Facilities Fee paid with our tuition. Taking advantage of membership ensures that the fees will go to various programs and events on and off campus. Membership is voluntary, but strongly suggested as each program could have the opportunity to vote with the GSC E-Board.
Executive Board Officers must be matriculated graduate 91ÊÓƵ during a full academic year (fall and spring semesters). Students participating in clinicals during the spring semester are eligible to serve as Officers if they are still considered full time 91ÊÓƵ during the spring. The Executive Board will be selected by the first meeting in April. A maximum of two (2) individuals within the same program can serve on the E-Board at one time. Nominations must be submitted and finalized by the final meeting in March. During the first April meeting, Program Delegates and each current Executive Board member will be eligible to vote for the next academic years’ Officers.
Matriculated graduate 91ÊÓƵ in each graduate degree program at the University shall select two (2) 91ÊÓƵ to act as Program Delegates. The role of the delegates is to act as a liaison between GSC and the graduate organization. Responsibilities of the delegate include attending all GSC meetings throughout the academic year, submitting academic budget requests at the end of the academic year, and voting on all GSC topics such as budget approvals.
Program delegates (2 per each graduate organization) must be matriculated graduate 91ÊÓƵ in good academic standing, with an overall GPA above 3.0. Two additional representatives may serve as alternates/proxies if one or both Delegates are not able to attend a meeting. Program Delegates must be active members of their respective program’s club. Selection of Program Delegates must be decided within the members’ respective clubs. If no club exists for a particular program, only one Delegate may be selected. All Delegates and representatives must join the GSC OspreyHub to be officially recognized by the committee to have Voting Privileges.
GSC meet twice per month, biweekly throughout the course of the academic year. Dates, times, and locations of meetings vary from year to year, please check above for specific dates for current semester.
GSC runs various events every year, depending upon the interests of the council and graduate 91ÊÓƵ. Common events that GSC runs include graduate panels, fundraising events for the GSC scholarship, and an Open House at the beginning of each year. Historically, the club has also been involved in Relay for Life and the Day of Scholarship at Stockton University.
In order to receive graduate club funding through GSC, the club can use the to help them develop their requested budget for the upcoming academic year. Completed requests is done through OspreyHub, and information will be provided in the spring semester. Approval for the budget requests is determined via votes by the GSC at the end of each academic year. Clubs that are unable to submit an application by the deadline will be given a starting budget of $500. More information about the budget process can be found in the Graduate Student Council Constitution.
Requests for supplementals can only be requested if the funds in each respective organization have all been used up. Each program member seeking supplemental funds will need to complete an Individual Budget Request form. The Individual Budget Request form will outline specific expenses covered for individual programs or events. These expenses include travel, on-campus, and off-campus events.
The GSC Book Award is a scholarship that is awarded annually to five 91ÊÓƵ based on the following criteria: full or part-time graduate student that has completed at least one semester of coursework and demonstrates financial need, has a GPA of at least 3.5, or demonstrates campus involvement in student organizations and/or community service. Applications can be submitted through Stockton’s University Scholarship Application at www.stockton.edu/foundation-scholarships. Applicants will be automatically considered for the GSC Book Award based on their completed general application.
