William then reported that the committee is advertising the upcoming Career Fair. William then welcomed the committees new member, Tracey Smith. Student Welfare Chantel first welcomed the two new senate members. Chantel then gave an update on the following issues that Xilena discussed with Glenn Miller, Chief of Police: Xilena - Appeals never seem to be considered Chief Miller - They are making up an appeals board, with Terrence Hardee, Director of Residence Life, so that the process can go faster. This is only for citations and Stockton tickets; not for tickets issued from Galloway Township. The appeal will take up to two weeks, which is still a lot shorter than the old process. Xilena - More parking for commuters Chief Miller - Professors can no longer add extra 91Ƶ to their class if the class is closed. This policy will lessen the number of 91Ƶ attending the college during certain times during the day. Xilena - People drive too fast in the parking lot (we need speed bumps) Chief Miller Cannot put speed bumps in parking lot 4-6 because of liability issues but the police will be using radar more often. Xilena - Some 91Ƶ are complaining that the police officers are racist Chief Miller - The police officers go to workshops for sensitivity incentives. If anyone feels there are any police officers who are racist, the chief would like to speak with them personally. Xilena - Stronger sanction policy for violent offenders (physically & verbally) Chief Miller - If anyone is a threat to anyone on campus, he/she will be escorted off campus. Xilena - More police presence on campus Chief Miller - This is something they will be working on. Announcements/Comments from the Public: Lamott Moore, Director of Student Development, announced the memorial services for Damon Kirkland and Gina Durham. Lamott then announced that the Spring concert, sponsored by SET, will be held April 19, 2008. Brand New will be the group performing. Thomasa Gonzalez, Dean of Students, welcomed back the senators. She then told the senators that the Deans Office, Counseling Center and the Office of Student Development and their staff, were open to 91Ƶ if needed. Elaine Grant, Director of Summer Conferences & Special Projects, encouraged 91Ƶ to swipe their cards when taking the shuttle. The availability of the shuttles depends on the usage and the numbers are low. Elaine then announced that the SOAR Reunion would be held during the Stockton vs. Rowan basketball game on February 6, 2008. Glenn Miller, Chief of Police, thanked the senate and the School Spirit Committee for their help with the Toys for Tots campaign. He then encouraged everyone to sign up for the emergency text messaging system. Jen Forman, Assistant Director of Student Development, announced that Orientation Leader applications were available and could be accessed on the Student Development website. The applications are due February 14th. She then introduced the new Freshman Class Council president. Craig Stambaugh, Director of the College Center, informed the senators that his office will be putting out a survey and encouraged them to fill one out. He then announced that the College Center would be giving t-shirts to the first 100 91Ƶ at the Stockton vs. Rowan game.
