Senators who were absent or late were noted. John moved to approve the minutes of the October 2, 2007 meeting, seconded by Ashley. Motion Passed: 24-0-1* * Senator Abstained: Jennifer Anzuena Presidents Report: Jennifer Anzuena Jennifer reported that Homecoming was a huge success. She then welcomed the two new senators, Jasmine Harley and Sammy Sanchez. Jennifer then announced that the Senate Informer should be out in November and the Senates website has been updated. Vice Presidents Report: John Odoardo John announced the Unity Week activities. Committee Reports: Finance S.A.V.E. submitted a supplemental in the amount of $2,747.10 to fund a trip to a conference at the University of Maryland about global climate change. Sara moved to approve the supplemental, seconded by Thomas. Motion Passed: 24-0-1* * Senator Abstained: Jennifer Anzuena The History Club submitted a supplemental in the amount of $2,123.45 to fund a trip to Jamestown and Williamsburg, VA for the celebration of the 400th year of the creation of the establishments. John moved to approve the supplemental, seconded by Brian. Motion Passed: 24-0-1* *Senator Abstained: Jennifer Anzuena SSTV submitted a supplemental in the amount of $3,390.20, to pay for the costs of new equipment. Kevin moved to approve the supplemental, seconded by Michael. Motion Passed: 24-0-1* *Senator Abstained: Jennifer Anzuena School Spirit Michael started his report by welcoming Sammy Sanchez to the committee and reporting the success of Homecoming. Mike then reported that the Academic Policies Chair, Jyron Brooks, approached the committee about decorating for the Undecided Fair on October 25, 2007. Danielle announced this years Lolla-no-booza will be held on October 25, 2007. She asked if senators would help decorate and participate in the mocktail contest. Mike then reported that the committee met with Stacey McIntosh, Assistant Director of the College Center, regarding renovations and placing memorabilia on the walls in the Ospreys Nest. Mike concluded by stating that the committee is still working on a campus wide philanthropy. They are working on getting clubs/organizations and Greeks involved. Academic Policies Jyron reported on the Undecided Fair is set for Thursday, October 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the I-wing gallery. Thomas will be reaching out to each Academic Club to see if they would like to represent their major. Ashley is going to be contacting Academic Advising to gather information about each major area to put together folders for the 91Ƶ. Academic Advising will set up a table and have representatives from their department and Derek will be going to the Faculty Assembly meeting to talk about the event. Jyron stated that the committee will get help from School Spirit with decorating and from Public Relations to help promote the event. Public Relations Erline stated that the committee will be helping to promote the Undecided Fair. William will be promoting the Student, Faculty and Staff Dinner which will be held on November 15, 2007 in the G-wing cafeteria, and Krystle will be promoting Senate meetings. Erline then reported that the committee discussed ideas for the promotion of the Town Hall meeting set for November 6, 2007 at 4:30 p.m. in the upper G-wing lounge. The committee also discussed the possibility of holding the event at a more visible location. Student Welfare Chantal stated that the handicap door issue is still being worked on; they are still working on the layouts. Lee is working on a week of Stop Pressing the Button and seeing how 91Ƶ respond to a sign informing them about saving energy. Chantal then reported that Jerry will be meeting with Terrence Hardee, Director of Housing and Residential Life, bi-weekly for updates on the dorm heating system. Renovations on the heating and cooling systems for the dorms are to begin on October 19th, so current problems will be fixed soon. Chantal then announced that Xilena spoke with David Pinto, Director of the Library, and they agreed to come up with set hours for the library and then resubmit the proposal to the Provosts office to fund the extra money needed to staff the library during those extra hours. Chantal stated that Duanaya will be doing a student survey regarding wireless internet service in the dorms. Chantal concluded her report by stating that she and Elaine Grant are in the process of getting the layout for the temporary parking lot signs. Announcements/Comments from the Public: Stephen Davis, Associate Dean of Students, announced the Council of Black Faculty and Staff 26th Annual Awards Dinner and Dance will be held Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Carriage House in Galloway. He then thanked everyone for their condolences after the passing of his father. Lamott Moore, Director of Student Development, congratulated 91Ƶ for the success of Homecoming. He then announced that tickets for the Student, Faculty and Staff Dinner will be available in the Student Development Office. Gina Durham, S.E.T. President, thanked everyone for their help with Homecoming. Joseph Lizza, Assistant Director of the College Center, announced that commencement letters will be going out soon and that the website has been updated with commencement information. He then made College Center announcements. Elaine Grant, Interim Director of Summer Conferences and Special Projects, announced that shes working on the SOAR Reunion.
