Stockton Enrollment Increases 2 Percent for Fall 2018
Freshman enrollment at 91视频 increased 2 percent for fall 2018, continuing the trend of growth at the University. A record 1,595 freshmen are enrolled this fall, Chief Enrollment Management Officer Robert Heinrich told the Board of Trustees at their first meeting in the new Academic Center of Stockton Atlantic City on Sept. 26.

University Earns Third HEED Diversity Award
91视频 has again received a 2018 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity publication in higher education. This is the third year in a row that Stockton has received the award. This year the Tech Trek summer camp for middle school girls at Stockton (pictured left) also earned a 鈥2018 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award鈥 from INSIGHT Into Diversity.

The Oyster Farmers Documentary
Oyster farmers, Stockton鈥檚 Marine Field Station, local restaurants, Long Beach Township and the Jetty Rock Foundation are working together to recycle oyster shells back into the bay to create more habitat for future generations of oysters.

Stockton鈥檚 Marine Field Station held a film screening of The Oyster Farmers documentary at Maxwell Shellfish in Port Republic on Sept. 21. The film shares the stories of our region鈥檚 dedicated oyster farmers and how innovative recycling and sustainable farming is bringing back the oyster population and preserving the bay as a place where baymen and baywomen can make a living.

Stockton alumna Angela Andersen, sustainability coordinator for Long Beach Township, produced the film with director Corinne Ruff. Steve Evert, director of Stockton鈥檚 Marine Field Station, is featured in the film as well as Stockton鈥檚 efforts to build an experimental reef. the official trailer and an post from the film screening.


 

SASI Faculty Research Scholarships
A new scholarship fund, in the name of Stockton Affiliated Services, Inc. (SASI) has been established to support faculty research. These Faculty Research Scholarships will be administered by the University鈥檚 Provost Office and will be part of the University鈥檚 Research & Professional Development (RPD) Awards.
The SASI Board of Directors has approved two annual awards of $1,500 each. These funds will augment existing RPD funds during the main round of applications.

鈥淭here are a lot of great research projects being conducted at Stockton,鈥 said Todd Regn, executive director of Research & Sponsored Programs. 鈥淲e are very pleased that SASI wanted to be involved in supporting these scholarly activities, we appreciate their interest and generosity.鈥

During this inaugural year of the scholarships, the funds will help support the following:

John Guers, assistant professor of Exercise Science 鈥淐omparison of Brain Blood Flow in Acute Exercise and Opioid Use.鈥 This project will use advanced imaging techniques to examine and compare brain function following both opioid use and exercise. The pilot data generated could help determine whether exercise can be successfully used as a behavioral intervention for recovering opioid addicts. Undergraduate 91视频 in the Exercise Science program will assist with the study, allowing them to be involved in professional level research.

Kaite Yang, assistant professor of Psychology 鈥 鈥淭he Impact of Participating in Cross鈥怌ultural Dialogues through a Service鈥怢earning Project.鈥 This project will examine the impact of a service鈥恖earning activity that involved interactions between Stockton undergraduates and international 91视频 from ELS English Language Centers in Atlantic City. The study seeks to understand how participating in an international community engagement activity impacted Stockton 91视频' attitudes towards diversity, cross鈥恈ultural contact and service.

鈥淭here existed broad concurrence among the members of SASI that we sponsor scholarship grants to enhance research possibilities for faculty,鈥 said Audrey Wolfson Latourette, Distinguished Professor of Law, and member of SASI鈥檚 Board. 鈥淲e congratulate John and Kaite, the first recipients of the grants, and applaud the important academic endeavors upon which they embark.鈥

Stockton colleagues recently contributed $505 to the Lillian E. Waters Memorial Scholarship Fund in celebration of Deputy Chief of Staff Lolita Treadwell鈥檚 recent wedding nuptials. The Stockton scholarship honors the extraordinary life of her late mother, Lillian E. Waters, and the amazing legacy of leadership, community activism and educational advocacy she left behind. Congratulations, Lolita!

Stockton named Richard Ziegler as the for the 2018-19 season. Ziegler is the first addition to the staff for new Stockton head coach Devin Jefferson, who took over the Osprey women鈥檚 basketball program in July. Ziegler brings experience at both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels.
