WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT

EOF 2024 summerEOF Emphasizes Importance of Community, Connection

“EOF” is more than just an acronym for Educational Opportunity Fund at Stockton. It stands for “Extension of Family,” as  by the strength of the community of 91Ƶ, staff and faculty who participated in the program.

Over the last 50 years, EOF has become a beacon of hope and an avenue for marginalized and underserved 91Ƶ to access higher education and upward mobility. Through the program, eligible 91Ƶ receive the tools and resources that they need to prepare for, excel in and graduate from colleges and universities in New Jersey.

This year, 115 eligible 91Ƶ participated in Stockton’s EOF Summer Academy, living on the Galloway campus and spending a month learning, developing leadership skills and building social connections. When they return for fall classes on Sept. 5, EOF 91Ƶ will have a network of peers and faculty and be prepared to navigate courses, on-campus employment, and student clubs during the academic year.

This sets them up for success. In fact, 95-98% of EOF 91Ƶ from 2021-2023 persisted past the first semester, according to Ana DeNise, director of EOF at Stockton and alumna of Georgian Court University’s EOF program.

OSPREY NOTES

Library Named Express Library by Online Computer Library Center

The Richard E. Bjork Library has been named an Express Library for its efficient and fast collection sharing and Interlibrary Loan Services for the fifth consecutive year by the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) Express program.

This award designation places the Bjork Library in a unique small group of libraries that can fulfill student, faculty and staff copy requests in less than 18 hours. The Library is also an elite member of the OCLC Express program.

“This designation is even more important this year and the next, now that the Bjork Library is under renovation and Interlibrary Loan will play a larger role in all library user services,” said Patricia Thatcher, dean of the Library. “With the bulk of the physical collection in storage until after renovation, and a smaller library commons space and circulating collection in C/D Atrium on the Galloway campus, collection sharing and copy requests will be a primary method for student and faculty access to academic resources.”
Congratulations to Susan Bucikowski, technical library assistant, and Lisa DiSciascio, senior library assistant, on their effective and prompt service to all Bjork Library stakeholders.

Fun Fact Friday: 📖  Today is the day to celebrate all the *bibliophiles out there — it's National Book Lovers Day! And well-timed our own University library receiving the exciting recognition posted above.
Some interesting trivia is the very first books used parchment or vellum (calf skin) for the book pages. If you're looking for something new read, check out  of "100 of the Best Books of All Time" from Reader's Digest.
