Deeanna Button Receives International Victimologist Award
Galloway, N.J. 鈥 Deeanna Button of Hammonton, an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Stockton University, was named the Benjamin Mendelsohn Young Victimologist Award recipient for 2018 by the World Society of Victimology (WSV) at the International Symposium on Victimology hosted by the City of Hong Kong University in Hong Kong from June 11-14.
The award is presented in remembrance of Mendelsohn, a pioneer in victimology and is awarded to a young victimologist who has made promising contributions in the field.
鈥淚 am truly, truly honored to receive the Benjamin Mendelsohn Young Victimologist Award,鈥 said Button. 鈥淚 am grateful for a job that allows me to make meaningful contributions and to work among many others who do the same. Although the work we do is not always glamorous or upbeat, it is important.鈥
Button鈥檚 research focuses on victimology with areas of interest in LGBQ victimization, social support and resiliency; sexual assault; family violence; and violence against women. She teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level at Stockton, including statistics, research methods, victimology, sexual assault and criminal justice.
Button was nominated by Distinguished Professor of Criminal Justice at Stockton, Janice Joseph.
