Software Available on Most Lab Machines 

91ÊÓƵ’s computer labs are equipped with a wide array of software applications to support student learning and research. The following list represents software that is available on most, but not all, lab machines. 

  • 7 Zip: Versatile file archiving software for high compression.
  • Anaconda: Open-source distribution for Python and R, facilitating data science and machine learning.
  • BlueJ: An integrated development environment specifically designed for teaching Java to beginners.
  • Eclipse: A popular Java Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with support for a wide range of programming languages.
  • Google Chrome: A fast, secure, and widely used web browser.
  • Google Earth: A geospatial software application for mapping and geographic data analysis.
  • Java JDK: The Java Development Kit contains the software and tools needed to compile, debug, and run applications that you've written using Java.
  • Java JRE: Java Runtime Environment enables your computer to run applications and applets that are written in the Java programming language.
  • Jaws Screen Reader: A computer screen reader program that allows visually impaired users to read the screen either with a text-to-speech output or by a Braille display.
  • Kurzweil: An educational technology which provides reading, writing, and learning solutions for 91ÊÓƵ.
  • Maple: A mathematics software tool for engineers, mathematicians, and scientists for problem-solving, visualization, and technical calculations.
  • MatLab: A high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization, and programming.
  • Microsoft Office: A suite of productivity applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Mozilla Firefox: An open-source web browser known for its flexibility and security features.
  • Notepad ++: A free source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several programming languages.
  • Python: A high-level, interpreted programming language known for its readability and broad applicability in areas like web development, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and more.
  • Pycharm: An integrated development environment for Python with code analysis, graphical debugger, integrated unit tester, and more.
  • R: A programming language and free software environment for statistical computing and graphics.
  • R Studio: An integrated development environment for R, which provides tools for plotting, history, debugging, and workspace management.
  • Read&Write: A literacy software with tools designed for reading, writing, study, and research support.
  • Respondus Lockdown Browser: A custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system.
  • SPSS: A software package used for interactive, or batched, statistical analysis.
  • Visual Studio Code: A source-code editor made by Microsoft for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
  • VLC Media Player: A free and open-source, portable, cross-platform media player and streaming media server.
  • Zoom: A video conferencing tool that allows for collaboration and communication online.
  • Zotero: A free and open-source reference management software to manage bibliographic data and related
    research materials.

This specialized software may not be found on all lab machines and is intended to cater to the unique requirements of certain courses, projects, or research areas.
