A Hughes Center Conversation: State-Sponsored Violence in Belarus
The nation of Belarus is beset by social unrest following an election many believe to have been rigged. The government of Alexander Lukashenko has put down protests with violent force.
The William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy explores issues related to state-sponsored violence and the discord in Belarus in a recorded conversation with three Stockton University faculty members released today.
Hughes Center staffer Darya Hrybava, a native of Belarus, leads the Hughes Center Conversation with:
- Dr. Tina Zappile, associate professor of political science, with expertise in international law. Zappile serves as faculty adviser to Stockton鈥檚 Model U.N. and as a member of the Hughes Center Steering Committee
- Dr. Lauren Balasco, assistant professor of political science, with expertise on the subject of state-sponsored violence
- Mariana Smith, MFA, assistant professor of art, who emigrated from Russia in 1992 and who has witnessed state-sponsored violence as a protester.
This video is the latest in a series of recorded online Hughes Center Conversations about relevant public policy issues. Find a list of all recordings to date here.
