Get FIT@Stockton: A Sustainable Interprofessional Educational Wellness Program for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities 2022

Findings demonstrate the value and effectiveness of a community-based, interprofessional fitness and nutrition program for adults, ages 16 and up, diagnosed with IDD. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in participants’ overall flexibility and cardiorespiratory fitness. There was clinically relevant improvement in static balance and coordination on both sides of the body and core strength and endurance. In addition, clients reported better health behaviors and social engagement with participation in the program. Research was supported by the Family Resource Network of NJ and the NJ Division of Disability Sevices.

According to stress appraisal theory, stress is not a direct response to stressors. Instead, stress arises only when individuals lack the resources and abilities to cope with the stressors. Social
Emotional Learning (SEL) is a course that was designed to help provide 91ÊÓƵ the tools necessary to manage themselves when life inevitability becomes difficult. This course integrates the 5 pillars of SEL which are self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision, and relationship skills
making with mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. The goals for this class are to help 91ÊÓƵ develop or strengthen their coping skills, self-management and relationship skills, together with developing the ability to better understand themselves and the world around them.
